Benefits of drinking coffee

A huge amount of myths have arisen about whether coffee is healthy or not. So let’s get to know the advantages of drinking coffee. Which statements are certain, which are likely, and which ones should only be considered as myths? 

Confirmed effects of drinking coffee can certainly include a positive impact on concentration. Also, drinking coffee has a good influence on reducing the risk of kidney stones, type 2 diabetes, as well as reducing the risk of liver cirrhosis.

The above advantages are scientifically proven, but there are many others, whose mechanism is not fully understood yet. Coffee is supposed to minimise the risk of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as asthma and lung failure. Unfortunately, decreasing the risk of atrial fibrillation and heart failure has turned out to be a myth.

Disadvantages of drinking coffee

The confirmed effect of drinking coffee is the influence on the absorption of drugs and worsening iron absorption. What’s more, consuming too much coffee has an effect on the quality of our sleep.

However, it is a myth that drinking coffee increases intraocular pressure among people with glaucoma, or that it is a source of severe migraines. It also doesn’t raise the risk of cancer. In addition, it is worth mentioning that consuming coffee does not cause hypertension and does not contribute to the formation of acne, cellulite, dehydration, or developing any heart disorder.

The most known and widespread myth is that coffee flushes out magnesium. Coffee has diuretic properties, and due to them it slightly stimulates the excretion of magnesium. Few people know, however, that coffee is also a source of magnesium – a cup provides about 8-24 mg of it.

Is coffee healthy?

Specialists in this field agree on one thing – drinking a moderate amount of coffee, i.e. up to 2 cups a day, has no negative impact on your health. On top of that, this amount has more benefits than negative effects, so you can say that moderate drinking coffee is healthy. So let’s indulge in this morning pleasure!
