 Green coffee is gaining popularity, especially among those, who want to live healthily. Some people consider it even to be one of superfoods. We can find it in a lot of dietary supplements, especially in these intended for people who want to be slim or lose some weight. The main difference between green and black coffee is the way they are prepared. The green coffee isn’t being roasted. The effects it evokes are more similar to green tea, so it’s a product with pro-health properties.

What is green coffee?

Green coffee is nothing else than not roasted Robusta coffee beans. Chlorogenic acid with a strong antioxidant effect is the most valued substance contained in green coffee. In case of black coffee this acid decomposes under the influence of temperature. Since the green coffee beans aren’t roasted, they keep all their valuable properties in contrast to black coffee, where they can’t be found. The coffee beans contain about 250 various chemical compounds. Among them, of course, is caffeine, a substance with stimulating effects. Not roasted beans are rich in caffeic and salicylic acid. There is also vitamin B, minerals like potassium and magnesium, tannins, or essential oils. In a 100-gram portion of beans, we can find 11 g of proteins, 30 g of carbohydrates with most of them being dietary fiber. Also, there is just 13 g of fat.

The taste of a drink made from green coffee beans is milder than the one of the black coffee, but you can still feel slight bitterness. Green coffee is available in a few forms. You can buy beans, ground coffee, or pills. Freshly ground coffee beans allow you to obtain the best taste and aroma. If you don’t have a coffee grinder at home, or you want to find a perfect balance between convenience, time spent on preparing coffee and the taste, the best option for you will be the ground coffee.  It is worth ensuring the high quality of the coffee. In this case, the very best option will be to buy it in small portions, straight from the coffee roaster to prevent the coffee from drying out. The longer the ground coffee is stored, the more value, flavor and aroma it loses. It is recommended to buy coffee only from reliable sources, reputable brands, and preferably with an eco certificate.

What properties does green coffee have?

Generally, people drink coffee because they want to feel the effects of caffeine. It has a stimulating effect on the body – it results in energy boost and better concentration. Green coffee contains chlorogenic acid that has a very good antioxidant properties. It neutralizes the free radicals, substances responsible for the acceleration of aging processes of the body cells. Chlorogenic acid also has antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties. It prevents the development of atherosclerotic and neoplastic changes. This acid is also responsible for a reduced absorption of carbohydrates from the food. It also facilitates the reduction of adipose tissue, and this way helps to maintain a slim figure. Green coffee has a protective effect on the liver, strengthens the immune system, supports weight loss, lowers cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. Supports the production of bile acids and the work of the digestive system. Green coffee is also valued for its inflammatory and antiseptic properties.
